My stand on filedudes remains unchanged

Engenious,

Enough already with the personal attacks. We only ask that you demonstrate that the product is safe. Filedudes is not the way to do so.

The filedudes award (this time you provided a link) says its safe to install. It doesn't say what they tested, how they tested, how they know it doesn't have a backdoor, and it doesn’t say anything about their lab methodology. We don’t even know what is your association with filedudes.

Combine filedudes mix of questionable products with your product and it is just not good enough.

You asked about Expandlink. In an odd way I think you may have proven my point conclusively:

1) Expandlink clearly describes what it does: it converts encoded hex characters for readability.

2) Expandlink is open source: everything it does is open to any of the tens of thousands of independent downloaders.

3) Sharecube has a patent portfolio that it licenses to large corporations for inclusion in their software. We do not sell products directly to consumers. All software we license is in source form. We have developed and proactively engage our customers to use our best of breed coding and design practices.

It looks good, BUT they are overselling the security features. I wouldn't use it at an Internet cafe and expect it to be safe.

From the demo, the product makes its files available to drag and drop using Windows Explorer. This means that any software running as you on your system could do what you would do manually, read, write and copy files.

So, plug in the device, enter the password, and then your files are available. It isn't much of an issue on systems you trust. Then again, if you already trust your computer what is the secure benefit of this key?

The major benefit is that you can carry files securely. Someone could not find the device and attempt to crack it. That is safe, and that is a very good reason to buy this product, but it's protection scheme is generally worthless on an unsecured system.
