How to report a scam

Postby Rob on Mon Apr 12, 2004 11:10 pm

This is very easy...

Either forward the email (with any embedded images or the whole thing as an attachment) to spoof[at]millersmiles.co.uk (replace [at] with @).

OR

1. Register on this forum - there is no need to wait for confirmation once you have registered. Registration only takes a few seconds to choose a username and password.

2. Log in and enter the Report Scam, Spoof or Email forum (top of forum list) - which is only visible after you have registered.

3. Press the New Topic button to create your message/report.

4. Go to the email and copy the full email source code with headers *in outlook express you select the message Properties (from the File menu), press the Details tab and then the Message Source button. Then highlight and copy all of the source window contents and paste into your new post.

PLEASE NOTE: the Report A Scam forum has been specially coded to prevent other users from seeing your post - we do not want to publicise email source code for obvious reasons, and this is another good reason why you need to get a username and password first - only you and the site administrators will be able to see your report. Once the report has been investigated and confirmed, it will be posted in our library of spoofs and a response will be posted by the site administrator or one of the forum moderators.

If you have any concerns or questions, please post a reply to this message and one of the staff will gladly help you out.

Do you want secondary & teriary sourcecode as well ?

Postby amenex on Wed Oct 13, 2004 8:40 pm

While I'm familiar with the technique of viewing and copying and
pasting the complete message source and headers with a text editor
along with the forwarded phishing email, I have also been grabbing
the sourcecodes at the phishing site and sites to which the phishing
site refers. I've already posted an example of this (severely edited)
in this forum. However, I usually get just an auto-ack from PayPal
and eBay and usually a confirmation as well. No one ever says
anything about the sourcecodes grabbed from those sites, except
perhaps a few victims of identity theft who write back to thank me.
The admin's almost never do, although I did have a short discourse
with one nice fellow.

It seems to me that these secondary and tertiary codes may serve
to differentiate MO's as well as ID'ing perps. Izzat so ?

I had an interesting conversation with a state cop whose specialty
is Internet fraud a couple of years ago, and he said that eBay was
among the most aggressive trackers of scams & fraud on their
site. However, so far I have had zero feedback from eBay or
PayPal from the huge number of phishes that I have reported
to them. As I am a customer of each, I feel it's my civic duty to
continue without their feedback, though.

Thanks.

Report Phishing

Postby Picachu on Thu Jun 23, 2005 12:23 pm

Report phishing to Anti phishing working group(APWG). Phishers use spoofed e-mails and fraudulent websites as the weapons to fool innocent net surfers. Phishers tactfully extract personal financial data such as credit card numbers, account user Id and passwords, social security numbers, PIN numbers etc. By replicating the reputed brands of well-known banks, financial institutions, online retailers and credit card companies, phishers are able to convince up to 5% of recipients to respond to them.
