1. The spoof email pretends to be from US Bank and requests verification of account details. Details are captured from the webpage and forwarded to a local script.

2. US Bank NEVER send out emails requesting details from account holders.

 

" Dear U.S. Bank Client, It has come to our attention that your account information needs to be updated due to frauds and spoof reports. "...

If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.

 

The Spoof Email ...


Dear U.S. Bank Client,

It has come to our attention that your account information needs to be
updated due to frauds and spoof reports. If you could please take 1-5
minutes out of your online experience and renew your records you will not
run into any future problems with the online service.

Our terms and conditions you agreed to state that your account must always
be under your control or those you designate at all times. We have noticed
some activity related to your account that indicates that other parties may
have access and or control of your information in your account.

Therefore to prevent unauthorized access to your U.S. Bank Internet Banking account,
you are limited to five failed login attempts in a 24-hour period. You have exceeded
this number of attempts.*

Please follow the link below and renew your account information.

https://www4.usbank.com/internetBanking/RequestRouter?requestCmdId=DisplayOnlineBanking

Failure to update your records will result in further account limitations.
This notification expires on August 20, 2004.

Please be aware that we will have no other liability for your
account or any transactions that may have occurred as a result of your
failure to reactivate your account.

* Your access to ATM machines and U.S. Bank 24-Hour Banking and Financial
Sales has not been affected.
