traced to a server in Brasov, Bucurest.


1. The spoof email pretends to be from eBay notifying the victim of a problem with a bid (uses the item code rather than a description so at a glance it could be anything). Has a 'convienient link' to log into the victims account so they can check what the bid is but in fact the webpage is a spoof and details are then forwarded to a local script.

A very clever and deceptively simple scam, effective for the very fact you could follow the link and enter your details without a second thought.


" Dear eBay Community Member, The bid that you entered for the item ( 3832080778 ) has been cancelled. You can view the reason provided for the cancellation by selecting the (bid history) link from the individual item page."...

If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.
