Spoof email links to a spoof webpage where victim is prompted to enter their details believing the site is genuine. Details are then forwarded to a local script and captured.

WARNINGS

1. Email claims to be from Citibank asking you to verify/confirm/update your account. You will be taken to a spoof login page where your details will be captured by the phishers.

2. Citibank never send users emails requesting details in this way.

3. URL traced to a server in Harbin, China.

4. Spoof webpage loads a 'popup' login box in front of the real Citibank page, making it appear more authentic! Do not be fooled!

 

"Dear Customer: Recently there have been a large number of cyber attacks pointing our database servers. In order to safeguard your account, we require you to sign on immediately."...

If you have received this email, please remember that it is very common for these email scams to be redistributed at a later date with only slightly different content or the same but with the fake page(s) hosted by a different provider. Also, once you have received one of these hoaxes, it is also common place to receive at least another one and usually a day or two after the first, although not necessarily from the same apparent sender.

Dear Customer:

Recently there have been a large number of cyber attacks pointing our
database servers. In order to safeguard your account, we require you to
sign on immediately.

This personal check is requested of you as a precautionary measure and to
ensure yourselves that everything is normal with your balance and personal
information.

This process is mandatory, and if you did not sign on within the nearest
time your account may be subject to temporary suspension.

Please make sure you have your Citibank(R) debit card number and your User
ID and Password at hand.

Please use our secure counter server to indicate that you have signed on,
please click the link bellow:

http://218.7.120.81/ver/

!! Note that we have no particular indications that your details have been
compromised in any way.
